![]() ⚠ What happens if I do not use the recommended oil for my Town Car? Over time, the transmission may get damaged. ![]() If there is an emergency and you do not know which oil you should use, you can use the following list as a guide. You must always use the type of oil recommended in the owner’s manual of your Town Car. They are typically red or green to distinguish them from other types of oils. Automatic transmission fluidĪutomatic transmission fluids are usually called ATF. If the recommended standard for your Town Car is GL-4, you should use a GL-4 oil this way the bronze synchronizers of your transmission will not be ruined by the sulfur found in GL-5 oils. These standards will indicate the properties of the lubricants and we should take them into account when we choose the oil we will use for a refill. The ones currently commercialized are API GL-4 and API GL-5 (the latter is not so common and does not work as a replacement for GL-4). Manual transmission fluids meet different API GL standards. If there is an emergency and you do not know which kind of oil you need, you can use a GL-4 oil until you can buy the right one. You can usually find this information in the owner's manual. Here are some examples of multigrade oils: SAE 75W-80, SAE 75W-90, SAE 80W-90. Because of this, the oil can flow efficiently in both cold and hot temperatures. Multigrade oils can flow as if they had 2 different viscosities since they can be exposed to both low and high temperatures. You can find monograde oils that go from SAE 75 to SAE 140. Nowadays, there are almost no fluids with only one type of viscosity. If there is an emergency and you do not know which transmission fluid you should use, you can use a SAE 75W-90 fluid, and your transmission will be safe until you can buy the right one. This information is usually found in the owner's manual. The viscosity of the manual transmission fluid Manual transmission lubricants can be recognized because of their viscosity (their SAE number) and because of the API GL standards they must meet. There are manual transmission fluids and automatic transmission fluids. In short: The key is to choose the right quantity, quality, and type of lubricant you will use. Since I work in retail, and I know sometimes all you ever hear about is complaints, I wanted to let you know you produce a good product and you should be proud of that product. What kind of transmission fluid does your Town Car take? ![]() Now at work when my customers request my advise on what additives I recommend, its going to be lucas, because now I am really a believer. I really feel that your product helped me out of a jam that could of ruined my family's whole vacation. I know this additive is not my permanent solution to all my transmission needs, but I want to thank you for making a good product. Since that moment till a month later (today), I have had smooth sailing with my vehicle. I removed a quart of transmission fluid and added your additive. I stoped into a pepboys (where i also work at back home), and I purcased a lucas transmission additive. It then crossed my mind, how am I going to get my vehicle home 600 miles away. All that went thru my mind at that moment was great, this is going to ruin my plans to take my kids to Disneyland. I was traveling thru California on my family vacation, when my transmission suddenly started shifting hard in low gears and slipping.
